Dry Skin Care
Dry skin is a common occurrence, especially in the winter months when there is less moisture in the air. Taking extra steps toward keeping your skin hydrated is imperative to avoid itching and discomfort. Develop a dry skin treatment with everyday items in your home so that you do not spend a fortune on skin care products.
Moisturize
It is important to hydrate dry skin often to help repair the affected area. Petroleum jelly is one of the best moisturizers for your body because it is very bland, containing no perfumes or ingredients that would further irritate the skin. Apply the jelly as needed to help rehydrate the skin.
Pat Dry
Rather than rub down your body with a towel after a bath or shower, pat it somewhat dry. This will help keep some of the moisture from the bath on the skin. Applying a moisturizer after the bath is most effective, as the moisture you leave on the body can be locked in.
Avoid Getting Wet
While it is important to moisturize your skin, refrain from exposing it to water and other liquids. Water can strip the skin of its natural oils, which is why repetitive hand washing can dry out your skin. Practice proper hygiene but try to shower only once a day, and only wash hands when necessary.
Castor Oil
Mixing some castor oil with your bath water is an effective dry skin treatment. The oil will help hydrate your skin and lock in moisture from the bath. Mix 1/4 cup Castor oil into the running water, and soak in the tub for about 10 minutes each time you bathe.
